Our installation service: what it actually includes

May 7, 2026·3 min read

When you choose + Installation or + Install & Haul-Away at checkout, here's exactly what you're getting.

Before install day

  • We email you within one business day to schedule. Most install windows are within the week.
  • We confirm the window type (double-hung, casement, slider) and the floor you're on. Above the second floor, brackets are mandatory; see our bracket article.
  • If your building requires a Certificate of Insurance, we send one to your management company. (Mention it when we call, or note it in your order's scheduling field.)
  • We confirm any building-access rules — service entrance, freight elevator window, doorman log-in.

On install day

Two installers, our truck, the AC in its original box, plus a kit that covers most variables: bracket hardware, side-panel filler kits, weatherstripping, exterior caulk, GFCI tester, level, drill.

What we do, in order:

  1. Inspect the window. Sash condition, sill condition, surface (vinyl/wood/aluminum), and whether the window will hold a unit at all. About one in twenty windows fails this step — usually rotten sills. If yours does, we tell you what needs to happen before we can install, and we don't charge for the visit.
  2. Set the bracket. For any second-floor-or-above install in NYC, we use a manufacturer-rated bracket fastened to the structural surround. We don't use suction-only brackets. We don't fudge it.
  3. Test the outlet. AC needs a dedicated 15-amp or 20-amp circuit. We test the outlet for proper grounding and GFCI behavior. If your outlet isn't safe for the unit, we'll flag it — we don't plug a 12,000 BTU unit into a daisy-chained extension cord.
  4. Lift and seat the unit. Two-person lift, every time. We center the unit, set the back tilt (about 1/4" outside-low so condensate drains away from the apartment, not into it), and secure to the bracket.
  5. Seal the gaps. Side panels, foam strips at the sash, and exterior caulk if the window-to-unit gap is non-trivial. Air leaks at the install are where most "this AC isn't working right" complaints actually come from.
  6. Power on, test, and walk you through it. Remote pairing, fan and cooling modes, drainage check, error codes. We don't leave until it's cooling and you know how to use it.

What we do not do

  • We don't run new electrical. If your outlet's wrong, we'll tell you. We won't fish a new circuit through your wall.
  • We don't modify your window frame. No sawing, no drilling new holes in the sash itself. If the unit doesn't fit, we'll tell you what unit will.
  • We don't install on fire escapes. This is illegal in NYC, period.
  • We don't reuse old brackets. A bracket that's been outside through five NYC winters is a coin flip; a new bracket isn't.

Haul-away

If you chose + Install & Haul-Away, we take your old unit when we leave. Refrigerant-containing units have to go through proper recycling — we use a licensed e-waste handler. The recycling isn't free for us, which is why haul-away is its own tier, but it costs less than a Sanitation special-pickup violation if you put a 60-pound AC at the curb on Tuesday night.

After install

  • One-year workmanship guarantee on the install itself (separate from the unit's manufacturer warranty).
  • We come back and tighten the bracket on the second summer, free, if you ask.
  • End-of-season storage and reinstall are available as a separate service.
